… John and Jacky Tanner have been doing their bit to tackle environmental issues. They were running 4.5 cows/ha and using 4kg supplement/day and growing around 17,000kg DM. The property was leaching 87kg and the initial ECAN targets were 65kg. The leaching is now 35kg and declining.

A plan was formulated to reduce stock numbers a little and supplementary inputs. The expanding use of Magni-Life and Magni-Grow is allowing for more and more supplement and fertiliser reductions. Net profit has skyrocketed by over $700/ha.

Magni-Life has been applied to the whole farm for the last 2 years. Over that time, supplement use has declined by 2.5kg/cow/day without loss of production. Urea use has declined from 250kg to 90kg - and 63 units of phosphorus as solid fertiliser replaced with 20 units of phosphorus from chicken litter. Magni-Grow was initially applied to 'poor areas' and has proven so effective it will now be used over the whole farm (growth increased by over 20kgDM/ha/day).

The Laughtons grow approx. 300 acres of wheat in Southland. Their goal was to improve their soil structure which they’ve done plus much, much more.

Magnify products have been part of their inputs for 16 years, firstly allowing them to move to direct drilling which requires good soil structure. And then by assisting them in controlling ‘Take All’ and other diseases, plus helping them achieve what most people think is impossible - nitrogen fixation without legumes.

One paddock has been cropped continually for 16 years with only one legume crop over that period. With just 90kg of N inputs, they still get yields over 11 tons/ha. Previous grain and fertiliser consultants have told the Laughtons 25kg N is required for every 1 ton of yield.

This would indicate their current system, which includes Magnify, is accounting for 185kg N coming from the ground each year without a legume in sight.
